SEC West Preview

LSU
2007 is shaping up to be a fantastic season for the Bayou Bengals. With the loss of Jamarcus Russell to the NFL a lot of amateurs are predicting a fall from grace for LSU. The pros know better.
LSU is one of the most dominant programs in the country year in and year out. There are a number of reasons behind that, but the main one in my opinion is that they have no intrastate rival that they must compete against when it comes to recruiting. If you grow up in Louisiana you grow up cheering on the purple and gold. Combine that with a plethora of thoroughbreds in the state and you have a recipe for a national power.
The Tigers ran up 33.7 ppg last season and impressed fans across America. The defense was absolutely phenomenal as well but was completely overshadowed by Russell and his counterparts. That will not be the case this season. While 2005 Peach Bowl MVP senior QB Matt Flynn will take over the reigns from Russell, Les Miles will have him on a short leash. Highly touted Ryan Perriloux is waiting in the wings going into his redshirt sophomore season. This offense will be more than adequate.
The LSU defense returns 8 starters from a unit that allowed just 12.6 ppg last season. An improvement on that combined with a manageable SEC schedule and you have yourself a National Championship contender. LSU is essentially a lock for the SEC Championship game in December. full article
